Ask Tom
12/29/08: OMG!! I finally got through the firewall that was preventing me from updating this site! Stupid software doesn't work with firewalls. Lot of work to do ...... 07/08/05: New pictures website address is tomnlisa.photosite.com 07/06/05: July 4th pictures are up!!! I'll try to get the Disney trip out here soon. 08/21/04: Hurricane Charlie hit! Generator has been running non-stop for a week. Only turn off to add gas. Water was restored late Tuesday night, so we only were without water for 4 days. Phone came back online yesterday. They put a temp cell tower up so the cell was the first thing back online. 94F degrees upstairs in the house yesterday. I hardwired the generator into the 220 dryer outlet and am backpowering the whole house. Got the irrigation well online this way and constructed a makeshift shower on the backporch by running a hose from the well to the showerhead. Too hot in the house so I put the family in the master bedroom all this week and found a window AC unit. Cooking on the grill out back. I hung a close line between the only two trees left standing and my wife is able to run the washer ... but no dryer, too much power. I'm on my third chainsaw chain this week. Using my Army truck to clear my land. Took me half a day Saturday to cut my way out to my mailbox. Took me and two other guys the rest of Saturday to cut our way to the main highway. Only to find it in just as bad condition. No gas. We had to plan our trips to the Space Coast with five gallon gas cans in the back of the truck. 60 miles round trip. No smoking on those trips!!!! I am so sore, and hot, and tired. And sun burned, Yeow!!! But everyone is OK. My community is leveled. The government met with us last night and confirmed 105MPH winds from the hurricane and SEVEN tornados in our area. That would account for all the damage. The Red Cross, FEMA, State and County have all been in my neighborhood helping out. It is AMAZING how people come together in times like these. My neighbor fought her way through the woods and downed trees to get to the road and post a sign on her mailbox. "please help ... " Her house was hit by two 80' pine trees and her drive was of course gone. She lives alone in the woods. Within an hour of posting the sign there were 4 pickup trucks, two frontend loaders and a zillion chain saws cutting her out. 07/29/04: Finally got a new dog .. Clover. We are in the "training" phase, oh boy! 04/04/04: Just about finished painting the well house. Will start moving all the garage garbage into it soon. Catie Beth got a goldfish as a stopgap until we are ready for another dog. Hard to believe it has been 11 months since Taz died. 02/24/04: No news for a while. Lisa is trading in her Avalanche for a Cadillac Escalade EXT. It is her birthday present of sorts. Basically just an Avalanche on steroids. The well house is under construction. 12x16 with 10' walls. Had a loft with pull down stairs installed at the 8' height. Double doors and the unit is sitting on a concret pad. No shingles or siding yet. Having a hard time getting siding to match the existing house. Apparently it was special order 3 years ago when we built the house. 12/22/03: New Family christmas Pictures in Family Christmas 2003 09/21/03: New Pictures in Catie Beth 2003 BDay I & II 09/20/03: New Pictures in Vacation 2003 II & III 08/20/03: New Pictures in Vacation 2003 I 07/04/03: New pictures in July42003 I & II 07/01/03: New pictures in Easter2003 I & II 06/01/03: And more Christmas pictures in Christmas2002PicturesIII. 05/21/03: Sad news to report today. Taz died from a snake bite. We are all pretty torn up. Buried her in the backyard. House seems empty now. 03/25/03: Got a few more new Christmas pictures in Christmas2002PicturesII. 01/25/03: Finally get around to posting the Christmas Pictures!!! New pictures in Christmas pictures 2002 I. Temperature got down to 26 Thursday morning!!! Record cold! 12/18/02: New Pictures!!! (Finally) in Catie Beth XII-XIV 12/11/02: Decorating the downstairs is on hold until after Christmas. Big empty room. we set up the Christmas tree in the main room w/ the fireplace and moved all the living room furniture in there for Christmas. Changed the front suspension bushings on the Jeep last weekend and broke one of the bolts on the swaybar bracket. That should be a joy to drill out and tap. Hmmm perhaps I'll just weld the darn bracket on. 10/18/02: We are working on getting some new pictures. Hopefully at the Halloween party. Been VERY busy. Poor Lisa has been working tons of overtime at Disney. We FINALLY completed the room upstairs!! Moved all the funiture, video and audio equipment up there last weekend. Now Lisa can decorate the downstairs!!! 09/19/02: Catie Beth's Birthday ... two years old!!! Wooo Hooo!!! Fun party at the church daycare today. 08/13/02: Long time since an update. Nothing to report really. 06/17/02: Well we are back from Oklahoma. Nothing like driving two days & 2700 miles w/ a 20 month old!! Actually it wasn't bad. Thank God for DVDs!!! I have to admit this Chevy Avalanche truck is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. Smooth as silk on the highway and a 8 foot truck bed when you need it. 05/06/02: Landscaping out front is finally done. Still haven finished the last coat on the wallboard upstairs. Catie Beth started daycare at the local church. Seems happier since she gets to play with more kids. 04/06/02: Finally got pictures of my car after the repaint. Click on the little car below the Guest Book. This will take you to a BMW club website. If you want to see bigger, higher resolution pictures go to: http://tomnlisa.homestead.com/CarPictures1.html http://tomnlisa.homestead.com/CarPictures2.html http://tomnlisa.homestead.com/CarPictures3.html 03/28/02: Well Lisa got rid of her beloved 1998 Dodge Durango w/ 59K miles. She now has a black 2002 Z71 Chevy Avalanche. We have yet to get it in the garage. Drives very nice though. We still haven't finished the room upstairs, however the front yard landscaping is almost done. 03/11/02: Got my car back from the shop. All new paint and restore. Pictures soon. Lisa and I have almost finished wallboarding the entertainment room. The neverending project. Well that AND the front yard landscaping. 02/14/02: New Christmas, 1st Birthday,Catie Beth & Halloween Pictures in Pictures link section!! 01/29/02: Well as you may know the site has been down for a couple of months. Finally got it back online. I will update with new pictures from Christmas soon. We finally have the rec-room upstairs ready for dry-wall. Should be putting that up soon as well. 09/19/01: Catie Beth is 1 year old today! Hard to believe a year has gone by already!!! Big bash at Chucky Cheeses this Saturday! 08/23/01: Well we are all gearing up for Catie Beth's first birthday!! Hard to believe she is going to be a year already! Lisa is planning a bash at Chucky Cheese for all the kiddies we know. Well found out that the AC company did NOT size the upstairs unit for the bonus room over the garage. Construction of the theater room has ground to a halt until the builder hashes that one out! We were ready to put up the drywall - glad I ran the numbers. Got a spare set of intake manifolds for the 850. Will be honing them out and getting them coated soon. 07/20/01: Added SeminoleWoods Website to Links area. 07/09/01: New pictures in BabyPictures7 & 8 06/28/01: Quick notes: Catie Beth is 20lbs now!!!! Wow and 2' 5" tall!!! Putting 3.91 gears in the rear of the BMW in-lew-of the 3.64. That will put more of the V12's torque & hp down before 60mph. US models are electronically limited to 155mph. The 3.91 will bring the top end down to just about 155. So actually I will not be loosing anything. 06/12/01: Well I haven't updated this for sometime now. Really nothing to report. With summer here we have settled into a routine. Catie Beth is getting huge!!! She has 8 teeth now and is eating everything in sight - real food. I am SLOWLY working to complete the theater room upstairs. Wiring is done and about half the insulation. Still haven't put in the A/C. Too many projects!!! the landscaping is non-existant. haven't finished seeding the backyard, etc. Oh well. 04/16/01: Easter Pictures are in Easter1!!! Also BabyPictures5-6 and CarPictures1 is new. 04/04/01: Well we are just about unpacked. Catie Beth is getting BIG!!! Turned in my BMW M3 last month. Considering buying an AC-Schnitzer 850CI. Drove to Palm beach last weekend to check it out. Will keep you posted. 02/28/01: WE'RE IN!!!! Finally. What a pain! But everyone is happy, even Taz! Lays around on the front porch all day and doesn't try to wander off. 02/14/01: Final inspection is this Friday. We will start moving boxes this weekend. Next weekend will be the final move. Got a crappy temp mailbox until I get time to build the real one. 02/06/01: Sprinkler system went in yesterday. Sod goes down today. Also the driveway through the woods was finished. Still have a bit of concrete to do up by the house and out by the street. Flooring installation has started. The tile on the counters in the kitchen are almost done. Lisa and I rented a truck last night and delivered all of the appliances, fans, and slipper tub to the house. These things have been in our rental house garage for a couple of months now. Plumber is coming today as well. With one week to go it is going to be close. 02/02/01: Catie Beth has gotten her first tooth!!!! New pictures in BabyPictures4, House Construction 10 !!! 02/01/01: New info in House Automation. New Pictures coming soon! Painters expect to be done w/ the inside by end of week. 01/31/01: New pictures in HousePictures7,8,9 01/22/01: Catie Beth started getting rice this past week. She doesn't seem to dislike it, so I guess that is good! The house has power. The septic field is done. Cabinets have been installed and the painting is continuing. The blown insulation went in yesterday. Most of the concrete drive is in. I still need to get the guy out for the lime rock. Looks like we may make Feb 15th. 01/03/01: Not much news. Catie Beth is a happy baby! Loves to play w/ toys. We take her to the mall - she likes that. She is definitely a morning person! Right out of bed and ready to go!! She DID NOT get that from her mother.... The house has about a month to go. Started tile. Painters are working away. The driveway goes in this week. Next friday the cabinets arrive. This weekend I will start the final punchdown of the network interfaces and service terminations. 12/18/00: BTW - I forgot to mention that Catie Beth is sleeping through the night now. She is also playing a lot now. She has become fully aware of her surroundings! Christmas is on its way .. FedEx of course. Bare in mind that Christmas this year will be thinner than usual given the financial bleeding in our lives at the present. The driveway goes in this week. What a mess ... that ended up costing about $3000.00 more than I had invisioned. My fault though. I am only going to put bark down for the part through the woods. It would have been $8000.00 to concrete the whole thing!!! 12/10/00: Christmas family pictures are in Christmas 1! 12/05/00: We had a photographer take family Christmas pictures ... so ... Christmas family pictures coming soon!!!! 11/29/00: Started painting the house yesterday. The following are excerpts from Lisa's AOL communication this morning about Catie Beth's second doctors appt. lkingfl (11:10:50 AM): Catie screamed and cried when she got her shots. ;-) lkingfl (11:11:02 AM): almost made me cry too! :'( lkingfl (11:12:00 AM): at 4mos we can start giving her rice cereal..etc. the Doc gave me a sheet on what is suggested to give her. lkingfl (11:12:17 AM): She may have a fever from the shots.. I have to give her tylenol every 4 hrs. lkingfl (11:12:57 AM): he said to give it to her to try and prevent any fever that may occur. If her fever gets over 103 we need to call or if her shots swell above a half dollar. lkingfl (11:13:43 AM): I had to hold her in the car until she calmed down and wen to sleep. She was so cute today. Now she'll be in a bad mood. 11/24/00: New pictures in House Construction 6, Baby Pictures 3, & Misc 1 !!!! 11/20/00: New pictures in Halloween 1 !!!! 11/6/00: The wallboard was hung this weekend. I had to move some of the shower plumbing myself since the plumber didn't line the two shower heads up correctly. In fact he put the washing machine plumbing in the wrong place. The pedistal sink plumbing in the wrong place. And the upstairs bathroom plumbing in the wrong place. All of which is correct on the plans. I'm convinced he gets paid by the hour. 11/04/00: Went to the community cookout Saturday night. Everybody had a blast!!! I towed the hayride trailer for the kids. I also started cooking the pork butts, turkeys, and chicken at 0900. The party started at 1700!! I was pretty tired by the time the party started. Lisa got to meet our new neighbors and show Catie Beth off!!! Catie Beth did VERY well the whole night. I guess the over stimulation got to her. She slept. Didn't get to participate in the square dancing ... but that is probably just as well. 10/30/00: Well Catie Beth is 6 weeks now! Hard to believe. We are going to take her to a friends house for Trick-Or-Treat. She has a pumpkin costume and little booties. The siding is going up on the house now. Next week will be insulation, with wallboard the following week. The loft is undergoing a "design" review as I type ;-) Which is just great considering it is already built! 10/18/00: Well the house wiring project turned out to be MUCH bigger than I had thought! 1800FT of RG6, 2500ft of CAT5, 750ft of fiber, 1000ft of audio. Takes a lot of ladder climbing to run a mile of wire. We ran the service run to the outside last night. Had to hand chisle the concrete to run the conduit though the wall. Not fun. Running the service run for the satellite dish to the roof tonight. If this web page doesn't get updated anymore ... you can guess what happened! ;-) 10/11/00: BABY PICTURES ARE HERE!!! 10/9/00: Well Lisa finally got tired of me using her Durango to pull tree stumps out with and put her foot down :-( I am now the proud owner of a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. 360cu. auto. full heavy tow package. Runs great but looks like hell! Next problem is I am not allowed to park in or around the new house. So I have picked out a secluded spot in the woods to park. Me ripping the wood siding off and spot priming didn't help the looks any :-) 10/5/00: Catie Beth had her first doctors appt. yesterday. And her first shot! Needless to say this was a bad experiance for everyone involved! We will drop off the baby picture film today, so we should have pictures in a few days. The house is coming along well. I have concerns about the A/C installation for the #1 A/C unit downstairs. I'm not an expert, but I don't like the way it is being done. Too many upperstairs floor joist are being cut! And God knows where the return is going to be. 9/26/00: Well after everyone came home on Thursday, all seems well. Many thanks for the cards, flowers, and gifts!!! We will have baby pictures soon! 9/21/00: Today is baby picture taking day. We both got a good nights sleep so today visitors are welcome! Hopefully Lisa & Catie Beth will come home late today or tomorrow. 9/19/00: Catie Beth was born today @0821EDT. She is 7lbs 12oz and 19.5" long. She was born Frank breech so Lisa had to have surgery. Mommie and baby are both doing great!!!! Daddy had his first diaper change experiance ... oh fun!!! 9/18/00: Tomorrows the day! Got to be at the hospital at 05:30 sharp! YUCK. We both are excited. Stay tuned for more info. 9/15/00: New House pictures in House Construction 4. 9/13/00: Lisa had her weekly appointment today. Baby is fine but did not turn. In Lisa's words, "looks like a little indian sitting there with her legs crossed". We are scheduling an appointment at the hospital for next Tuesday. There they will try and turn the baby - if they can't then Lisa will have a C-section. If we arrive on Tuesday and the baby is already turned then they will induce. The good side of this is we will know exactly when the baby will come! Bad side is that this is major surgery and Lisa will have to be out 8 weeks. Will keep you posted! 9/11/00: Started on back porch & framed fireplace. Waiting on new tile quote. 9/8/00: Lisa had her weekly checkup yesterday. She is 2cm!!! Doc thinks the baby has turned so Lisa will have an ultrasound next week to confirm! Gettin' close! Front porch under construction. Tar paper is up. 9/5/00: Basic framing is complete. Roof trusses go up today! Lisa is hot all the time now! More pictures coming Friday. 8/30/00: Had the last Lamaze class last night. We both are glad that is over. Lisa says the last thing she wants during labor is me in her face telling her what to do!!
